Let Us Play
A weekend that explores issues of spirituality and play among children. This short course will be especially helpful for all those who work with or alongside children, particularly 5-11 year olds.
This weekend course is an ideal introduction to issues of child spirituality, and for those exploring the healing and therapeutic aspects of play with children.
What is the value of play and what place does it have in development? What part do adults have in supporting and developing good play practice in children? Short course participants will be exploring issues of play, through both theory and practice, and reflecting on how we can recognise the innate spirituality of children during playtime. All sessions will be interactive and may involve the use of story and creative materials.
The weekend will focus on 3 areas and how these can come together to bring hope and change for children, support healing especially for those impacted by developmental trauma, and offering insight to adults whatever their role or ministry.
1.Play: Explore theories of play and the key role it plays in children’s lives. How we can support and value it within our ministry settings using sand, plasticine, music and much more.
2.Spirituality: Explore our own understanding of spirituality and faith through story, reflection and response. Use a creative tool to recognise and respect children’s spirituality in all its different dimensions.
3.Relationship: Reflect on the importance and healing potential of our relationship with the children that we encounter and the implications and practical outcomes of that reflection.
The course is led by Jenny Lambourne, a great friend of the college, trained play therapist and author of 'Embracing Children's Spirituality; glimpsing spiritual moments in children's play'. More about Jenny and her work can be found on www.timeandspaceforchildren.co.uk.
A great space to experience God and to learn something new at the same time.
The course was excellent – a good mix of input and creative resources.
Very informative with good teaching sessions mixed with time to explore play.
I learnt so much – very relevant to where I am in my journey.
