Foundations: Reading the New Testament

Reading the New Testament is an online unit taken over 15 weeks, using Cliff College's online learning platform.

The New Testament is essential for Christian mission and ministry, containing foundational testimony about Jesus’s life, death and resurrection, and the earliest accounts of Christian belief and experience. As Scripture, the New Testament continues to shape Christian faith and practice in the contemporary world. On this unit, Foundations: Reading the New Testament, you will be introduced to the literature, history and message of the New Testament. This unit provides you with tools to enable you to read the New Testament in its context and to use it appropriately in mission and ministry today.

This unit is taught in ten sessions over ten weeks, with a further five weeks to prepare and submit your assessment. More detail of the unit structure is available under 'Dates and cost'.

I feel the unit walked us through the gospels and provided areas for deeper thought. The unit also covered books in the New Testament which would not be as popular, giving us insight into their content and helping to gain an appetite for deeper study in them.

The course offers a comprehensive overview and has helped broaden my understanding of the New Testament in context.

This unit will be available from October 2024 and is taught in ten sessions over ten weeks, with a further five weeks to prepare and submit your assessment. The first and last sessions are live seminars which you will need to attend either online or onsite at Cliff College. These will take place on Thursday 3 October and Tuesday 3 December and run from 7pm-8:30pm.

The other eight sessions are designed for independent study and are made up of video content, reading, written tasks and other creative activities to help consolidate your learning. These can be done at any time in the week that suits you. We recommend that you allow two hours of learning for each session, plus time for reading and assessment preparation.

Throughout the unit you will have opportunities through scheduled online meetings to check in with Cliff College staff, discuss your learning and experience of the unit, seek guidance on assessments and ask any questions you have.

You can apply for this unit here. This unit costs £360, including access to all teaching materials and tutorial support throughout your learning.
