Teaching and Assessment

The majority of the teaching of the Diploma year is undertaken by permanent faculty members, with the addition of adjunct lecturers who bring particular expertise either for a single session, or for a course unit.  Teaching styles are varied, though all sessions include opportunities for discussion and questions, reflection, and often group work.  The Evangelism units are practically based - meaning that they are often taught in an intensive week away from college, where the students experience something of that particular context, get involved, having opportunity for reflection and interaction.  The performance of students is assessed in a number of ways across the course, including essay writing, presentation of seminars, examinations and portfolios.

Students are also involved in 20 days of mission or placement across the Diploma, where they have the option of being involved in a variety of Cliff mission teams working in different contexts, or using the days available to pursue a personal sense of calling or interest.  Students have used placement time to shadow ministers, work in Christian Radio stations, volunteer in centres for the homeless and much more.

Students on the Diploma level of the BA course, through lectures, mission and simply being part of the Cliff community, are challenged to explore theology, biblical studies, mission and practice in greater depth than they before this point.  This leads to lots of time spent thinking, grappling with proposals and concepts, trying out ideas in practice - and ultimately growing as disciples, practitioners and leaders.
